Interview with Francisco Javier Seguí García

1. Please introduce yourself briefly. Who are you and where are you from?

I am Francisco Javier Seguí García, from a small inland village in the Marina Alta region, in the north of Alicante, called La Vall de Laguar. It is a beautiful valley overlooking the sea, a place that is undoubtedly a part of who I am.

2. How did your passion for art begin, and what inspired you to start?

I have always been curious about painting. Three years ago, I enrolled in art classes and, since then, I have hardly stopped. Little by little, I discovered that painting made me happy, allowed me to express myself and helped me disconnect from everything else.

3. How would you describe your artistic style?

To be honest, I still find it difficult to give my style a name. I like long, energetic brushstrokes full of movement, and above all, I enjoy working with very vivid colours. I try to make my paintings powerful and full of joy.

4. What influence do Spain, its culture or its landscapes have on your work?

Spain is very present in the way I experience art. I am hugely attracted to bullfighting, or as I call it, “tauromagic,” and I also have a great fascination with animals. These are themes that inspire me deeply and allow me to play with colour and expressiveness.

5. What message or emotion would you like to convey through your art?

I try to convey fun and vitality. For me, painting is also about enjoying, feeling and allowing emotion to emerge through colours and brushstrokes.

6. Is there a particular work that you are especially proud of? Why?

Yes. There is a bull full of vivid colours that particularly moves me whenever I look at it. There is also a horse’s face that people have really loved.

But above all, what matters to me is that I greatly enjoyed creating both works. And I believe that enjoyment also comes across when someone looks at them.

7. What have been the biggest challenges you have faced as an amateur artist, and how do you overcome them?

One of my biggest challenges is finding a way to capture and put onto the canvas what I have in my head. Sometimes what I imagine is not easy to translate onto the canvas.

I try not to become too obsessed with it and, above all, I have fun while I paint. I think that is the best way for me to overcome difficulties.

8. What are your dreams or projects for the future as an artist? What message would you like to leave with artefantastisch viewers?

I see my future as an artist above all as an opportunity to have fun and enjoy myself. I want to keep painting, make friends in the art world and learn from other artists.

And to the viewers of artefantastisch, I would say something very simple: support art.

Behind every brushstroke there is an emotion, a story and a moment lived. In the end, that is what it is all about: moving the person who looks at a work of art and, if possible, conveying a little happiness to them.
